McKay, Blackfoot crew earn annual maintenance, safety awards
For practicing innovation and collaboration, Tom McKay of District 4’s Jerome Maintenance shed and the Blackfoot crew were named ITD’s maintenance and safety annual-award winners. The honors were bestowed Oct. 22 by the Idaho Transportation Board at its monthly meeting in Boise.

ITD Malad foreman Thorpe again sets ITD road-clearing standard
Several years ago, the Idaho Transportation Department set a goal to keep highways and bridges clear during the slickest roadway conditions. Since then, ITD Malad-area Maintenance Foreman Doug Thorpe has set the statewide standard — twice.

ITD to install variable-speed signs on I-15 north of Osgood
To improve traffic safety and mobility on Interstate 15 north of Osgood, the Idaho Transportation Department will install variable-speed signs to slow traffic when blowing dust reduces visibility.

The 2015 Career Expo in Cottonwood Oct. 7 featured many of ITD’s best, as the district put together a variety of department initiatives designed to introduce students to possible careers in transportation.

Division of Administration
DMV’s Macdonald makes transition to Administration business manager
Francine Macdonald, grants contracts officer in ITD’s Division of Motor Vehicles, will become the new business manager for Administration and Aeronautics, reporting directly to Chief Administrative Officer Charlene McArthur. Macdonald will transition in the next several weeks into her new role in a way that does not leave DMV shorthanded.

Safety and Security
Encore (10-16-15): Idaho granted REAL ID extension through Oct. 10, 2016
Idaho was granted a one-year REAL ID extension in a letter received Oct. 14 from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS). During the extension, federal agencies will accept Idaho-issued driver's licenses and identification cards for official purposes.

Encore (10-16-15): Recent Idaho 6 culvert replacement highlights collaboration
The recent replacement of a partially collapsed and corroded culvert located on Idaho 6 approximately 2.5 miles north of the community Harvard featured collaboration between several ITD maintenance crews across two different districts.
