Daylight Savings Time
Mark your calendar, set your clocks back on Nov. 1
Relax. Take your time. You've got an extra hour to burn when Daylight Saving Time reverts back to ordinary, standard time in the wee hours of Sunday, Nov. 1. Before hitting the pillow on Saturday night, take a few minutes to set all of your time-keeping machines back an hour. Then catch up on the hour of sleep you surrendered back in March.

D5's use of geofoam in Topaz Bridge still paying dividends
An award-winning, innovative construction process using unique fill material debuted on the GARVEE-driven U.S. 30 Topaz Bridge project in southeastern Idaho five years ago. With 2010 solidly in the rearview mirror, it is worth taking a look back at the initiative. The Topaz Bridge project featured great collaboration between innovative engineering and construction techniques.

Board approves trucking project, reviews programs and participates in award ceremonies
Approval of a commercial-trucking project, an overview of the state's Scenic Byways Program, review of the department's annual report and special recognition ceremonies led Idaho Transportation Board activities during its monthly business meeting Oct. 22 at ITD Headquarters in Boise.

Department Honors
Encore (10-23-15): McKay, Blackfoot crew earn annual safety and maintenance awards
For practicing innovation and collaboration, Tom McKay of District 4’s Jerome Maintenance shed and the Blackfoot crew were named ITD’s maintenance and safety annual-award winners. The honors were bestowed Oct. 22 by the Idaho Transportation Board at its monthly meeting in Boise.

Encore (10-23-15): ITD Malad foreman Thorpe again sets ITD road-clearing standard
Several years ago, the Idaho Transportation Department set a goal to keep highways and bridges clear during the slickest roadway conditions. Since then, ITD Malad-area Maintenance Foreman Doug Thorpe has set the statewide standard — twice.

Encore (10-23-15): ITD to install variable-speed signs on I-15 north of Osgood
To improve traffic safety and mobility on Interstate 15 north of Osgood, the Idaho Transportation Department will install variable-speed signs to slow traffic when blowing dust reduces visibility.
