ITD unveiled a new, annual campaign Jan. 7 to help drivers stay safe during the winter months. The "Winter Safety Campaign" offers information via Facebook, Twitter and press releases that helps drivers safely arrive at their destinations.

Two Idaho high schools score big in national seat belt challenge
When challenged to increase seat belt use, teenagers from across the U.S. set out to improve their odds of surviving a traffic crash. Two Idaho high schools came away with top honors and cash prizes for their efforts to improve seat belt use in their schools, scoring wins in two of three competition categories.

Winter Road Performance
ITD sees drop in accidents on icy roads thanks to electronic spreader-control system
The Idaho Transportation Department has used an electronic spreader-control system from Cirus Controls to help cut winter maintenance spending by 29 percent over three years, and attributes the system to a drop in its three-year average of accidents on snowy and icy roads by 27 percent.

Removing loose rock on a slope above U.S. 26 near Wyoming Sept. 25, District 6 Geologist Shawn Enright’s crew dislodged this 20-ton boulder.

Demolition of Broadway Bridge underway
Crews began demolition of the bridge over the Boise River Jan. 4, kicking off the nine-month-long project to replace the old 1956 structure. The process of removing the existing bridge will take about 20 days to complete, followed immediately by work to build the new structure.

Encore (12-31-15): Opening of Pocatello's Cheyenne Connector caps multi-phase partnership
The grand opening of the Cheyenne Connector project in Pocatello Dec. 23 put the finishing touches on a multi-phase, multi-year $17 million investment connecting the southern section of the community by crossing the Union Pacific Railroad and Interstate 15.
