Kimbol Allen named division administrator/chief engineer
Kimbol Allen, who has served the transportation community in southern and eastern Idaho the past 17 years, has been named administrator of the Division of Engineering Plans and Products/Chief Engineer for ITD Jan. 22.

Rural highway funding, U.S, 95 sign repair and Aeronautics report discussed at Jan. 20 board meeting
Funding for rural local highway jurisdictions, repair of a U.S. 95 sign structure and an annual report by the Division of Aeronautics were discussed during the Idaho Transportation Board’s monthly business meeting held Jan. 20 at Idaho Transportation Department Headquarters in Boise.

Victory named ITD’s new chief information officer
Chris Victory was recently announced as the Idaho Transportation Department’s chief information officer. Victory, who is finishing up his current job in the United Kingdom, will return to Boise in March and join ITD in his new capacity on April 11.

$2B in unused funds; states await FHWA action
A detailed spreadsheet that shows more than $2 billion in unused, decade-old congressional earmarks allows state departments of transportation to begin estimating how much money they can receive when the Federal Highway Administration completes its preparations for states to draw those funds.

Department History
From the ITD Vault 20 years ago (April 1996): District 4 earns concrete construction award for Interstate 84 project
District 4 was recently honored for a job well done on Interstate 84. The Intermountain Chapter of the American Concrete Institute (ACI) announced in late February that District 4 won a 1996 Excellence in Concrete Construction Award for the reconstruction project on I-84 in Jerome County during the summer of 1994.

ITD Emergency Program
Training offered about managing ITD emergencies
Possible mail contamination prompted a lockdown of ITD’s main building at Headquarters in Boise on April 6, 2015. Although the powder proved to be harmless, the incident served as a wake-up call for employees and resulted in a thorough review of ITD’s procedures for evacuations and lockdowns. ITD now has a robust plan for responding to potentially harmful mail, for evacuating and securing buildings, and communicating critical information to employees.

Encore (01-22-16): MacKenzie fast-tracks project plan, plows roads in spare time
In mid-December, the southeastern region of Idaho received record snowfall, particularly in the Pocatello and American Falls area, where the biggest December snowfall in decades marred area roads. Into the fray jumped Scott MacKenzie, a D5 employee in the Materials Lab, who volunteered to get behind the wheel of a snowplow in order to help them meet the challenge.

Developing a statewide strategic plan for moving freight in Idaho will be the goal of the Idaho Freight Summit Wednesday, Feb. 10 in Boise.
