Sablan named AASHTO Fellow
Kevin Sablan, ITD’s State Design/Traffic Services Engineer, has been awarded a 2016 AASHTO Transportation Management Fellowship and will spend the next year in Washington, D.C., working on engineering and transportation policy issues. He will live and work in the nation‘s capital starting March 28.

Donate Life
April ceremony will highlight personal connections to organ donation
The Idaho Transportation Department and Intermountain Donor Services will hoist the Donate Life flag Wednesday, April 20, as part of National Donate Life Month in April. The ceremony will begin at 11 a.m. in the ITD Headquarters’ Auditorium at 3311 W. State St. Besides attending the brown-bag event, transportation department employees are asked to share their personal experiences with the life-saving program.

Northern Idaho crews extend kindness to Lady amid disaster
This winter has been rough in northern Idaho, with strong winds knocking down trees across highways and causing a week-long blackout in November, and a blizzard earlier this month, a smaller cousin to the massive storm that that crippled the East Coast. Several regional areas have been declared disaster areas. In the midst of the devastation, ITD crews showed extreme compassion, which did not go unnoticed.

Walk during lunch break leads to DEF warning decal epiphany
An employee on his daily walk during his lunch break at the Lewiston office noticed an emblem on a commercial fleet vehicle, and that sparked an inexpensive idea that could amount to significant savings per year.

ITD Public Transportation Manager Mark Bathrick was the keynote speaker Feb. 23 for the Community Transit Association of Idaho’s 2016 Annual Conference titled Idaho Transportation Moving Forward.

Highway Safety
Idaho high school students encouraged to take the Just Drive challenge
Young people from throughout Idaho are invited to raise awareness about the dangers of distracted driving with the Just Drive Video Challenge for young drivers. ITD’s Office of Highway Safety has partnered with television station KTVB to sponsor the competition.

Idaho Transportation Board
Board approves FLAP, reviews truck safety and authorizes a D1 road transfer
Approval of the Federal Lands Access Program (FLAP), a review of safety requirements for extra long and heavier trucks, and a road transfer in north Idaho were topics of discussion for the Idaho Transportation Board Feb. 18 at ITD Headquarters in Boise.

Encore (02-19-16): Minzghor named new D6 District Engineer
Jason B. Minzghor, who has served the transportation community in northern Idaho for nearly 17 years, is the new District 6 engineer for ITD. Minzghor will assume leadership of District 6, which is the department’s eastern Idaho region, on March 7.

Encore (02-19-16): ITD's north-central office earns National Weather Service designation
The Idaho Transportation Department’s office in north-central office received the Weather-Ready Nation Ambassador endorsement Feb. 9 from the National Weather Service, making ITD still the only transportation agency in the region to earn the designation. Ambassadors serve as change agents and leaders in their communities, providing an example of preparedness.
