AEDs in maintenance sheds helps alleviate catastrophic health concerns
Crews in the field routinely work several hours away from medical care. If an employee goes into cardiac arrest on the job in a remote location, their chance of survival can be slim. District 3 Safety Compliance Officer Eric Copeland proposed a solution to that exact circumstance: put AED’s in all district maintenance sheds

Super savings: a single contract saves $1.7 million
As far as savings and efficiencies go, this one is a game-changer. By replacing 17 bridges under a single contract, ITD has already saved $1.7 million. The single contract has enabled the collection of engineering data on all the bridges at once rather than separately, which is standard practice.

Districts collaborate on bridge-joint repair
When ITD works on bridges, it’s typically to better connect drivers to their destinations – but sometimes these projects help connect workers from different sheds and even different districts. A recent project in District 2 showed how to build bridges between crews, while repairing a bridge over the Clearwater River.

Keeping bridges open keeps commerce moving
There are hundreds of bridges in Idaho that are posted for maximum loads, particularly during the spring thaw. However, restricting loads also restricts economic opportunity and mobility, so ITD’s Bridge Asset Management team started reaching out to the owners of those structures in an effort to change that.
