Letting foremen teach
As the seasons shift and ITD prepares for the next round of snowfighting, District 1 foremen have stepped up and into a new setting: the classroom. For the first time, all foremen will guide their crews’ training to analyze data from multiple sources and improve winter operations, highway safety and mobility.

Child Passenger Safety Week reminds us to keep young ones safe
Keeping children safe on the road means making sure they are buckled up in the right seat at the right age. That’s the message for next week’s National Child Passenger Safety Week (Sept. 23-29).

Partnership with conservation group improves safety along ID-21
In Southwest Idaho, creeping brush growth along the highway creates great hiding spots for critters – posing a serious safety risk for motorists when they suddenly jump out onto the highway from behind a bush or tall grass. But thanks to a partnership with the Idaho Conservation Corps, a section on Idaho Highway 21 got a safety boost recently by clearing out adjacent plants.

Public Transportation
Annual public transportation summit allows group to accelerate
Staffers from ITD’s Public Transportation Office (ITD-PT) “Accelerated into the Fast Lane” at the annual summit in Boise August 21-23. The event built on the previous year’s summit and harnessed that forward momentum for nearly 100 participants — a 50% increase in attendance from last year’s event.

This story, from the Transporter in 1990, comes from the Golden Age of Snacking at Headquarters – the Coffee Lady brought coffee and goodies to each floor twice per day, and the vending machine guy also ran a hot dog cart on occasion. It was a magical time!
