Prepare to move clocks back an hour Saturday night
Relax. Take your time. You've got an extra hour to burn when Daylight Saving Time reverts back to ordinary, standard time Sunday, Nov. 6. Before hitting the pillow on Saturday night, Nov. 5, take a few minutes to set all of your time machines back an hour. Then catch up on the hour of sleep you surrendered back in March. (Purists can wait until 2 a.m. Sunday if they have the patience.)

Transportation board
District tours conclude in southeast Idaho
The Idaho Transportation Board concluded its series of meetings around the state last week with a tour and business meeting in District 5, southeast Idaho. The first stop was at the Interstate 15, McCammon Interchange, which is being reconstructed. The elevation is being raised to provide more clearance for commercial vehicles on the intestate below.

I have been getting reports in the last couple of weeks regarding ITD employees on their cell phones or texting while driving. I’d like to remind everyone that any use of cell phones or other messaging devices – including hands-free or text messaging, for any reason – is prohibited while operating a moving ground vehicle or off-road motorized equipment

The Idaho Transportation Board seeks volunteers for new trucking advisory board The Idaho Transportation Board is looking for seven people interested in serving on a trucking advisory council. The council would advise the board on laws and rules that affect Idaho trucking operations, safety issues, and would recommend highway improvements .

Preparedness
Guard against over exposure, frostbite
Soon freezing temperatures will occur during the daytime when many people will be working or recreating outdoors. Exposure to these conditions can lead to frostbite. Frostbite can be a serious medical condition if not treated correctly. More important, it is a preventable condition when the proper steps are taken to prepare for outdoor activities in cold weather.

By the very nature of their service, Idaho’s citizen soldiers invest in the well being of their communities. Guardsmen in Blackfoot have taken that commitment to community a step further by adopting a state highway and cleaning it of unsightly trash.

Speed limits
Encore (10-28-11): Safety, prudence, highway conditions guide decisions
Questions occasionally surface about how ITD and local jurisdictions establish speed limits for routes under their control. Decisions are based on what is "safe and prudent" for driving conditions. The posted limit is a maximum speed when there are no obstacles or distractions and the pavement is dry. Those "clear" conditions are not always the norm.
