ITD launches photo contest for all employees: June 21 - Sept. 6
Ever been out on a beautiful Idaho highway, sealing a crack or filling in a pothole and think you have the best workplace? That’s the prime moment for a photo. Pictures are power. They convey meaning without words and capture moments for eternity. To continue to expand ITD’s outreach to the public, the Office of Communication is launching a summertime photography contest for all employees.

District 6
McCurdy wins D6 Equipment Roadeo, advances to state event for sixth time
Stacey MrCurdy of the Arco maintenance shed won the 2019 District 6 equipment roadeo June 4 at the Arco yard, advancing to the state roadeo June 18 in Boise. McCurdy came out on top from among 27 competitors.

Lucky 13: Freeman tops D3 equipment roadeo, again
Testing skills and capabilities along with colleagues from throughout the region, dozens of participants gathered June 13 at the gravel pit at Blacks Creek east of Boise to compete in the 2019 District 3 Equipment Roadeo. For the 13th time, the name at the top of the standings when the dust cleared was Robin Freeman, foreman of the Council maintenance shed.

Ridgevue, Nezperce students win Battle of the Belts challenge
Seat belts save lives, but sometimes getting people to buckle up can be a challenge. That is why the Office of Highway Safety is enlisting the help of high school students across the state through the 2019 Battle of the Belts.

St. Maries foreman shows ITD spirit on the road
Our transportation technicians and foremen do more than just road maintenance. Part of their job involves maintaining a presence on our highways and paying attention. That’s why they are often the first people to come upon a crash scene. This was the case for St. Maries Maintenance Foreman Ross Farrell as he was driving on Idaho Highway 5 on May 15.

Old US-95 slide near Lucile exposes new issues
District 2 is no stranger to cleaning up slides. At milepost 210 on US-95 (about six miles north of Lucile), they’ve been doing it since 1997. The same area slid again in 1998, prompting a project that excavated 300,000 cubic yards of material — more than 400,000 tons!

Budget, Transportation Investment and 129,000-lb. truck routes topics of upcoming June board meeting
The budget request, five new heavy truck routes, and discussions of the draft ITIP (and emergency additions to the document) will highlight the Idaho Transportation Board’s monthly meeting June 19-20 in District 6.

Emerging Tech
ITD, Idaho Office of Emergency Management co-sponsor UAS conference to standardize drone use
Nearly 110 participants attended the kick-off event June 2 to discuss standardizing UAS/drone use, particularly when responding to a public safety emergency. Representatives for the Federal Aviation Administration were on hand, along with public- and private-sector stakeholders.
