ITD mourns loss of Mark Reinke Feb. 13 near Arco
ITD employee Mark Reinke, a Transportation Technician Apprentice from Howe, Idaho working out of the Arco maintenance shed, was killed Feb. 13 on westbound US-20 about five miles east of Arco. He was driving a backhoe and was hit from behind by a semi.

Doane becomes first non-engineer and third ITD worker in five years awarded AASHTO Fellowship
Michelle Doane will move to Washington, D.C. for a year in March, becoming the third ITD employee to take advantage of the AASHTO Fellowship. Doane, who manages the Business and Support Management unit in HQ Administration, follows Kevin Sablan in 2016 and Chad Clawson in 2018.

Fallen Worker - From the Vault
ITD remembers Aero's veteran pilot, Jay Morris
This is an addition to the ITD Fallen Worker Memorial: A respected pilot of 48 years and an eight-year ITD employee, Jay L. Morris died in an airplane crash March 12, 2002, along with Juvenile Correction Officer William J. Mann and a juvenile detainee.

Snake River View Rest Area funding, federal bridge funds and a discussion of future Highway 16 options
Possible funding for the Snake River View Rest Area, a discussion of $6 million in federal funds to fix bridge decks in poor condition, and possible Highway 16 future construction options will highlight the Idaho Transportation Board’s meeting on Wednesday, February 19 at ITD Headquarters in Boise.

Vault: Interchanges decade ago transform traffic landscape of Treasure Valley
The interstate system in Idaho carries about 26% of the traffic for the entire state, with I-84 between Boise and Nampa having the highest daily volumes. The daily traffic volume has grown by approximately 39% since 2009. Three key Treasure Valley interchanges that were under construction a decade ago accommodated this rapid growth.

CDL Training delayed until Feb. 2022
The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration has announced an interim final rule that extends the Entry-Level Driver Training compliance date to Feb. 7, 2022. Delaying implementation of the training gives them additional time to finish the Training Provider Registry. It was initially slated to changeover in February of this year.
