Exit in sight for I-84 GARVEE projects
As the GARVEE program on Interstate 84 in the Treasure Valley corridor wraps up this week, the impact on the transportation system will be evident to motorists for decades to come. Approximately $365 million of improvements on I-84 were funded by GARVEE.

National report emphasizes need for new investment
U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood today (March 16) announced that a new report on the state of America’s transportation infrastructure, 2010 Status of the Nation’s Highways, Bridges and Transit: Conditions and Performance, points to a sizeable gap between current spending and projected levels of investment needed to maintain the nation’s highway and transit systems.

The Idaho Transportation Department strives to reduce deficient pavement, increase preventative maintenance and give motorists a safer and smoother ride. He term “deficient” is used to indicate that pavement has fallen below a certain threshold and requires structural remedy.

Brown-bag lunch to focus on returning Idaho military
Learn first-hand what it’s like for military veterans to come home from active duty during ITD’s next brown-bag lunch program rescheduled for March 29 at noon in the Darrel V Manning Auditorium/boardroom. Representatives from the Idaho Department of Labor’s (DOL) Veteran’s Services group will discuss what it’s like to be in the military and the challenges that returning veterans and their families face when deployments end.

Encore (3-9-12): Highway Safety Summit planned May 8 in Boise
Highway safety and transportation professionals are encouraged to attend the annual Highway Safety Summit to learn of ways ITD and its partners can continue the road Toward Zero deaths on our highways. The all-day summit is scheduled for Tuesday, May 8, at the Owyhee Plaza in Boise. More information will be provided later, but those planning to attend should mark their calendars.

A new, more efficient project-delivery system called Design-Build will be used by ITD for the first time in the state on an intersection-improvement pilot project at North Linder Road and State Street (Idaho 44) near Eagle High School.

More than 30 people representing federal, state and local groups across Idaho participated in a new communications strategy, "Positive Community Norms," that ITD is developing to reduce fatal car crashes.

Ensuring safe travel on Idaho’s highways is a prime reason for high-visibility education and enforcement campaigns that target impaired driving, such as one planned statewide beginning Monday and continuing through March 18.
