Summit to focus on building strong leaders
ITD leaders from throughout the state will converge in Boise Tuesday for the department’s first leadership summit. The all-day event at the Boise Centre will include a wide range of learning experiences designed to empower employees to become better leaders, and through their leadership, make ITD an even stronger organization.

I-TIP comments
Public comment sought in selecting ITD projects
ITD is seeking public comment through Aug. 30, on the FY2013-17 draft of the Idaho Transportation Investment Program (ITIP). The ITIP is a five-year “roadmap” for planning and developing transportation projects. The draft provides details on projects planned for construction through 2017 and the GARVEE Transportation Program.

Agencies collaborate in 'One-Team' enforcement approach
What started as an effort with one LEL (Law Enforcement Liaison) in Lewiston eventually became a northwest campaign on impaired driving. The “One Team” event held before the July 4th impaired driving crackdown leveraged resources and provided an opportunity to practice mutual aid initiatives, sharing of resources, staff, and communication for enhanced services.

Speeding, failure to yield, following too close, and disregarding traffic signals are all aggressive driving behaviors. That’s why Idaho law enforcement agencies will partner with ITD to target aggressive drivers and motorcycle riders on Idaho’s roads Aug. 1-13.

Speed limits
District 3 begins reviewing speed limits near cities
To increase safety and improve traffic flow, the speed limit on several sections of Idaho 44 in Middleton will be changed Tuesday morning (July 31) as soon as crews can change the signs. This is in accordance with state law giving ITD the authority to set limits on all state highways and interstate routes.

Encore (7-27-12): POE inspector helps in saving traveler's life
Without much hesitation, Cottrell Port of Entry Inspector Julie Roseborough grabbed her handheld radio and called to the other port building to give a situation status. She ran out of the port office after two people came in to say there was a collapsed man outside near the neighboring Cottrell Rest Area along westbound Interstate 84 in rural Cassia County on the evening of July 12.

Mobility council to meet Aug. 7 in Boise
Funding and program updates will lead discussion when the Idaho Mobility Council (IMC), including members of the Public Transportation Advisory Council and Interagency Working Group, meet next week in Boise. The public is invited to attend the meeting, scheduled from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday, at the Best Western Plus Vista Inn, 2645 Airport Way.

Encore (7-27-12): Sand Creek Byway welcomed traffic today (July 27)
Long-awaited and highly anticipated, the Sand Creek Byway officially opened to traffic this morning (July 27), bringing to a conclusion more than a half-century of discussion, planning and recent construction. Crews prepared the road and removed barriers this morning for northbound traffic; about an hour later, the byway was opened to vehicles traveling in both directions.

Encore (7-27-12): Innovation District 2 approved for innovative SEP-14 project bidding
Project engineers in District 2 are pioneering the use of innovative construction efficiencies to save costs and complete projects quicker. The district recently received Federal Highway Administration approval of a SEP-14 (Special Experimental Project No. 14) on the Idaho 7 Gilbert Grade north of Orofino.

Encore (7-27-12): New Meadows thanks ITD for assistance
Representatives from the city of New Meadows recently took the time to thank ITD for assistance with a number of items, including installation of new crosswalk and pedestrian signs that will increase the safe walk to school for children. The most recent improvements, according to City Clerk/Treasurer Mac Qualls, came as a result of the Capital for a Day event the city hosted in April.
