Miller
reappointed; Combo continues as vice chairman
Neil
Miller, first appointed to the Idaho Transportation
Board in 1995, was reappointed to a third term and
confirmed recently by the state Senate. His new
term will run through Jan. 31, 2011. Longtime transportation
board member John X. Combo, who represents District
6, also was selected by fellow board members to
continue serving as vice chairman.

to hear annual report on audit
Internal Review Manager
Carri Rosti will present an annual report on
audits to the Idaho Transportation Board when
it meets in Boise Friday (March 18). Rosti’s
overview will include information about internal
and external audits performed in 2004, the work
planned for this year and the status of audits
or reviews performed on ITD operations.

St.
Patrick’s Day has become a big night
out on the town for many Americans, particularly
young adults. As part of a nationwide effort,
the Idaho Transportation Department joins
other safety partners in reminding motorists
to designate a sober driver before attending
St. Patrick’s Day festivities that involve
alcohol.

employees to be honored for service milestones
Nestled between
reports from ITD executives and the annual
report on department audits, the transportation
board spotlight will shift to approximately
80 employees Friday morning (March 18). The
employee services award ceremony, a twice-yearly
celebration of employment milestones, will
begin at about 10 a.m. in the Headquarters
auditorium.

to receive $4.5 million
Idaho
Sens. Mike Crapo and Larry Craig and Rep. Mike
Simpson announce Hailey’s Friedman Memorial
Airport will receive $4.5 million in funding from
the U.S. Department of Transportation. The funds
will assist the airport in making incremental
improvements toward the goal of compliance with
Federal Aviation Administration safety area guidelines

of Idaho publication designed to help private
landowners and others minimize the risk of losing
their property and homes to wildfire is now
available. "Protecting and Landscaping
Homes in the Wildland/Urban Interface"
is an updated version of the popular "Landscaping
for Fire Prevention: Protecting Homes on the
Wildland/Urban Interface," first released
in 1998.

Americans love an adventure. We like to watch
them and we like to be a part of them. After all,
we are the descendants of pioneers whose desire
for a better life was mixed with a spirit of adventure.
These, of course, were our ancestors, but this
characteristic, this desire to explore the unknown,
even in the 21st century, remains a dynamic a
part of the American culture.
