Secretary Mineta visits Boise
U.S.
Transportation Secretary Norman Y. Mineta, head
of the U.S. Department of Transportation, spoke
at the Boise City Club Friday afternoon. Topics
and questions from the audience covered a broad
range of transportation issues, including reauthorization
of the federal transportation bill, transportation
security, safety, highway congestion and public
transportation. A full report of his visit will
be included in next week's Transporter.

New
transportation laws in effect Friday (July 1)
Idaho
motorists face several new requirements beginning
July 1 as a result of action taken by the 2005 Legislature.

New
booster seat requirements also take effect
A
new law requiring children age 6 and younger to
be properly secured when riding in motor vehicles
takes effect July 1. Violation of the law will result
in a fine of up to $69 to the driver. Under the
new law, children 6 years of age and younger must
be properly secured in child safety seats or booster
seats. Previously, Idaho’s safety seat law
applied only to children up to age 4. Idaho is the
28th state to adopt a booster seat law.

a draft of the FY07 Statewide Transportation Improvement
Program (STIP) – the department’s five-year
roadmap for construction activities – during
the first of a three-day meeting last week in Idaho
Falls and Rigby.

Employees who
made changes to their health and dental
plan should check their June 17th pay stubs
to ensure that the correct premiums were
deducted for July, encourages the ITD Human
Resource Services staff.

Flexible
Spending Account extended 2-1/2 months
The
flexible spending account that allows ITD
employees to set aside pretax money for
anticipated medical expenses has become
even more flexible. A change in Internal
Revenue Policy now gives participants an
additional 2-1⁄2 months to incur and
submit claims for reimbursement from the
FSA account.

fair, barbecue planned Wednesday at

The
safety committee at Headquarters and
DOROLCO will join in celebrating the
official beginning of summer with
a safety fair and feed Wednesday from
11:30 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. on the East
