Board
to review safety grants, tour District 1
The
Idaho Transportation Board will travel U.S. 95
from Coeur dAlene to the Canadian border
as part of its District 1 tour next week. The
day will include a tour of the Sandpoint Municipal
Airport and a stop at Eastport, where members
will learn about security measures at the U.S.-Canadian
border. The group also will tour the U.S. 95/Copeland
Northeast construction site. The project stretches
17 miles and is designed to improve the highway,
increase motorist safety and replace two aging
bridges.

Bonding
concept explored during workshop
The
first of a series of workshops to explore new
and innovative ways to fund Idahos transportation
system was held in Boise on Thursday, Aug. 5.
We asked regional business and state leaders
to learn more about one of the potential financing
tools GARVEE bonds, said Charlie
Rountree, Division of Planning Manager.

Safety
video strives for high impact among teens
In
an effort to change attitudes that may keep
teens from buckling up, the ITD Office of Traffic
and Highway Safety will sponsor multimedia presentations
in junior high and high schools this fall. The
presentations are projected onto 10-foot screens
and incorporate loud music and fast-paced images.
Teens are encouraged to make good choices, including
wearing seat belts and not drinking and driving.

Simmons
concludes service on PERSI board
ITD
employees and other state workers are assured
of a strong, growing retirement system that
will provide for their needs in life beyond
work. The health of the Public Employee Retirement
System of Idaho relies, in significant part,
on volunteer trustees like ITDs Sue Simmons,
who stepped down July 1 after more than nine
years of service.

launches new quarterly report to Congressional
delegates
The
Idaho Transportation Department is using
the information highway to keep the states
congressional leaders up to date on achievements
and issues related to transportation in
Idaho. The department recently distributed,
via e-mail attachment, the first issue of
Transportation News Quarterly
to Idahos four congressional delegates.

Public
reviews possible Eagle Road solutions
Idaho
citizens who live, work, commute and travel
on Eagle Road (Idaho 55) had an opportunity
to preview some of the improvements being
considered for one of the states busiest
non-interstate highways this week. A public
open house in Boise offered a preliminary
look at the Eagle Road Arterial Study. The
purpose was to show the management concepts
being considered for Eagle Road.
