Interim
Director Bower outlines goals
to continue ITD's momentum
Interim Director Dwight Bower
discussed his goals and detailed organizational
changes in a meeting held Tuesday with the department’s
executive team and division business managers.
Dwight is serving as the department’s
interim director for five months while the transportation
board begins a search for a permanent director.
Dwight outlined five priorities for the immediate
future.

Truck crash, spilled cargo close Idaho 55 for six hours
Fresh salad your way – tossed green or fruit. A
semi truck and trailer load of produce – including
vegetables, apples and bananas –escaped onto Idaho
55 early Thursday morning after the driver lost control
of his rig while trying to avoid a deer. The crash was
reported around 3:30 a.m. and involved no other vehicles.

restores flag and pole crippled by drunk driver
School children at Whitney
Elementary School in Boise are well aware of the risks
of impaired driving pose and the destruction that follow.
The flag pole in front of their school was a vivid reminder
until recently. A driver who tested over the blood alcohol
limit plowed into the school's flag pole last year, rendering
it unusable

Former DMV administrator Moe Detmar honored
Moe Detmar, who retired as administrator
of the Division of Motor Vehicles in 2004 recently received
one of the highest honors bestowed by the American Association
of Motor Vehicle Administrators (AAMVA). Detmar joins
an elite group of Lifetime Achievement recipients. The
award was announced in August.

Farewell event planned Sept. 15 for Chuck Winder
ITD employees have an opportunity to thank Chuck Winder
for his 11 years of service on the transportation board
and to wish him well in his continued business and public
service pursuits during an informal reception Friday,
Sept. 15 at Headquarters. The reception will be from 9
a.m. to 11 a.m. in the auditorium.

Fitness
challenge draws record number of participants
A record-setting 638 employees reached their respective
exercise goal during the 2006 I-Fitness Challenge. That
represents 21 more people than last year. The 10-week
event challenged ITD employees to exercise at least
three hours per week and rewarded each successful finisher
with an Interstate 50th Anniversary incentive.

Selling your old phone once you upgrade to a fancier model
can be like handing over your diaries. All sorts of sensitive
information piles up inside our cell phones, and deleting
it may be more difficult than you think. A popular practice
among sellers, resetting the phone, often means sensitive
information appears to have been erased. But it can be
resurrected using specialized yet inexpensive software
found on the Internet.

begins to remove impaired drivers
If you drink and drive in Idaho you will be arrested.
That is the message state law enforcement officials, ITD
and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration
want drivers to know as part of a crackdown on impaired
drivers before and during the Labor Day weekend.

begins for optional life insurance
Benefited ITD employees have the opportunity to purchase
optional term life insurance at group rates during the
annual NCPERS open enrollment period, from Sept. 1 through
Nov. 30. The Voluntary Group Life Plan is underwritten
by the Prudential Insurance Company of America and is
administered by American Administrative Group, Inc.
