Board
workshop to focus on PSAs
The Idaho Transportation Board will conduct a workshop
Tuesday focusing on the GARVEE (Connecting Idaho) program
and on professional service agreements (PSAs) in the Division
of Highways. The workshop, scheduled in the East Annex
conference room, will precede the board’s regular
monthly business meeting Wednesday.

Young
drivers over-represented in crash figures
He
is someone’s son, grandson, brother, or best friend,
but as a teenager he’s also a prime candidate
to be one of Idaho’s next highway crash statistics,
according to the 2005 Idaho Traffic Collisions report.
Young drivers, ages 15 to 19, were are nearly three
times as likely to be involved in a fatal or injury
crash as all other drivers, according to the report.

Education,
training helps motorcyclists prepare for road
In their quest to save money by paying
less at the gas pump, an increasing number of Idahoans
are trading four wheels for two. Motorcycle ridership
in Idaho has increased significantly the past year,
and so have the number of serious or fatal motorcycle
crashes.
Although there may not be a direct correlation, increased
ridership is considered a contributing factor in the
rising number of crashes.

Mainframe
migration to take place this weekend
ITD’s mainframe computer,
which houses a significant number of applications
including Division of Motor Vehicles functions,
will be taken off line for approximately three hours
early Saturday morning. The brief interruption will
enable a cadre of information technology experts
to move data and applications from the department’s
mainframe to its new host site at the State Controller’s
office

Preparing for bridge over turbulent waters
A District 6 crew experienced turbulence recently near
Salmon. ITD’s dive team conducted a cross-section
survey of the Salmon River as part of a hydrology study
for building a pedestrian bridge across the river. Their
in-water survey determined the amount of water in the
river so a bridge can be designed to handle the flow.

Flu
shots, screenings planned this fall
The ITD Wellness Program has arranged
for several health-related services to be delivered
to employees this fall, some of which bear no direct
cost. Headquarters employees should receive information
later this month about the annual flu shot clinic
scheduled for Nov. 14.Those who complete and return
a registration form will be assigned an appointment
time for a flu shot.

Craft bazaar, donations to benefit Food Bank
A holiday craft fair, organized by Headquarters’
employee organization DoRolCo, is planned Friday (Oct.
20) in the Lobby as a way for ITD employees to showcase
their talents and as a benefit for the Idaho Food Bank.
The 2006 Holiday Hobby and Craft Bazaar will run from
10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and feature handcrafted or homemade
items

6's Koon honored for legislator's report
Cathy Koon, District 6 public information
specialist, recently attended the national Federation
of Press Women conference where she accepted a third
place award.
Her report to district legislators in December 2005
received the award in the Annual Report category.
