Board commits new revenue to highways and bridges
The Idaho Transportation Board voted in Pocatello Thursday to advance critical projects to repair and maintain state highways and bridges using funds recently allocated by the Idaho Legislature.

Summer maintenance work extends lifespan of Treasure Valley bridges
ITD is using a process called hydrodemolition to maintain and extend the lives of several bridges throughout the Treasure Valley. Hydrodemolition involves removing concrete from the surface of a bridge by using a high-powered pressure-washer. The bridge is then resurfaced with a silica fume overlay, which requires the concrete to set up, or "cure," over multiple days.

Work Zone Safety
ITD promotes work zone safety during final summer season of I-84 GARVEE construction
ITD continues to stress how important it is for drivers using I-84 to leave early, slow down and pay attention. As construction in Boise and Meridian nears the final phase, traffic patterns will continue to change throughout the summer. A new public service announcement has been created by ITD and its Office of Highway Safety to raise awareness of safety in roadway-construction zones.

If holiday plans include a trip on Idaho 55, ITD asks drivers to avoid the period of heaviest traffic by traveling outside peak travel times or using alternate routes.

Newcomer Stanley pulls away in D4 Equipment Roadeo
One rookie and three former D4 Equipment Roadeo winners will represent the district at the state event in June. First-time competitor Burton Stanley took the top spot after finishing in the top three of each of four scoring events at the district roadeo on May 13 at the Twin Falls Maintenance Shed.

A good runner typically deals in one of three forms of currency – stride, stamina, or will. Sometimes a runner possesses neither a mile-eating stride nor has freakish endurance, but excels anyway. Steve Allen, a motor vehicle investigator in District 5, falls into that category.

Encore (05-15-15): 29 Years Ago (March 1986): Rain, snowmelt causes $1.7 million in damage
Heavy rains and spring-like temperatures caused an estimated $1.7 million in damage to the highway system in February with widespread flooding and rock slides through much of north central Idaho. Sections of U.S. 95 and State Highway 55 were closed for up to a week.
