District 5
D5 becomes "beaver deceivers"
District 5 recently converted a retired ITD materials source near Montpelier known locally as Dingle Pond into wetland mitigation for transportation projects in the area. Along the way, they installed beaver deceivers. The access road to the wetland property crosses a wastewater canal, creating a prime location for beaver to do their own “enhancements."

D4 celebrates 585 years of service to the state, pays tribute to one special employee
Affectionately called "Aunt Di" by her colleagues, Diane Schlund was recognized in District 4 last week for 50 years of service with ITD. Although the landscape and even the name of the department has changed over the years, Aunt Di's commitment to both her role and her team has always remained steadfast.

Government, industry partner to improve log-hauling safety
Beginning July 1, Port of Entry employees and their partners with the Idaho State Police will be better able to enforce rules for those transporting logs in Idaho.

It’s been many years since flooding washed out the culvert on Idaho Highway 3 near Rose Lake, but high water levels routinely jeopardize the route. D1 Operations is doing something about that.

D4’s Young volunteers time at Filer STEAM event
On a bright Friday afternoon in early April, D$ Communication Specialist had the fortune of tagging along with TTE Andrew Young as he educated students on guardrail design. At many scholastic institutions across the state, it’s tradition to host an annual STEAM event focused on real-life applications of science, technology, engineering, art, and math.

Some calls — like those about potholes and plowing — come and go with the seasons, but some remain. The constant influx of calls from the public about signals, signage and speed limits prompted the traffic section in District 1 to act.

Vault: Wit and Wisdom from 1958
Travel back to 1958. Gas was a quarter. Rent was $92. A house cost less than $13,000. Hula hoops were all the rage. At ITD, there was wit, wisdom, and we were not yet governed by political correctness.
