Director Ness presents to U.S. House Subcommittee July 11
ITD Director Brian Ness presented to the Science, Space and Technology Subcommittee of the U.S. House of Representatives on July 11 regarding the importance of research and innovation in maximizing transportation budgets. It was likely the most significant national stage for an ITD Director since Darrell Manning was the national AASHTO President in the early ‘70s.

Youmans, DeFrehn, Trefen and Dixon added to ITD Fallen Worker Memorial
Four names have been added to the ITD Fallen Worker Memorial, the result of district input and continued research (along with input from department oldtimers and retirees). The names were vetted through ITD's Senior Safety Team in early June.

Vault: No Appetite for Destruction
“Your vehicle is a 3,500-lb. weapon,” said Garden City STEP (Selected Traffic Enforcement Program) coordinator Sgt. Blair Brannan. “Multiply that weight with the speed you’re traveling, and the destructive potential is phenomenal.” My son began Driver's Training this summer, so the highway-safety message is definitely on my mind.

It's Fire Season - Are You Ready?
Winter snowstorms have gone into hibernation, and summer is in full swing. During the winter and early spring, maintenance crews spent about eight months fighting one winter storm after another. Now that summer has decided to show up in Eastern Idaho, our crews have changed hats to fire prevention.

Public Transportation
Public Transportation Summit helps service providers statewide
The Public Transportation Summit, hosted by the Idaho Transportation Department’s Public Transportation Office, is in its third year and features new trainings from subject-matter experts in a variety of fields. About 120 people are expected, double the number of attendees from just two years ago.

Employees invited to TRB presentation and open forum Aug. 1
ITD employees are invited to a presentation in Boise at the Headquarters Auditorium Aug. 1 from the national Transportation Research Board (TRB). The presentation will be video conferenced via WebEx in each of the districts. The session will be held at 1:30 PDT and 2:30 MDT. Anyone interested in learning more about TRB, and how ITD interacts with them, is encouraged to attend.
