ITD State Bridge Engineer Matt Farrar had been working for the department’s Bridge section for just a few years back in late summer 1989, when he was tapped to design the new Lawyer’s Canyon Bridge.

Marker named new Aeronautics Administrator
Jeff Marker continues his rapid ascent at ITD, rising to become the new administrator at the Division of Aeronautics effective Sept. 23. He previously spent 10 months as the Public Transportation Manager, after being manager of the department's Freight office for the three years prior.

Cab mount adds to chainsaw safety
Every operator knows more than snow falls on the road in winter. For the Lolo Pass area in north-central Idaho, trees fall regularly with the flurries. Relief plow driver Bill Foust has run into his fair share of downed trees on US-12. In that situation, the chainsaw is his friend, But loose in the cab of his truck, it is not so friendly.

Tell me if this has happened to you: you’ve just purchased a car, when not long after, you begin to see it everywhere. What gives? This psychological oddity is referred to as the Baader-Meinhof Phenomenon, or Frequency Bias… and it happened to me the first time I saw an electric scooter on the sidewalk.

Fatalities Drop During 100 Deadliest Days
This summer, 91 people died as a result of traffic crashes according to preliminary data. This is down from last summer, when 101 people were killed in crashes during the same time period, and equals the lowest number since 2015.

Safer Communities
Idaho Celebrates Child Passenger Safety Week Sept. 15-21
Gov. Brad Little has declared next week, Sept. 15-21, to be Child Passenger Safety Awareness Week in Idaho. There will be safety events around the state throughout the week to mark the occasion. One-third of kids age 14 and under who died nationwide in traffic crashes were not using a car seat, booster seat or seat belt.
