Hutchinson
named Chief Engineer
The
Idaho Transportation Board voted to remove the
word “acting” from Steve Hutchinson’s
title Thursday, formally awarding him the position
of Chief Engineer and Division of Highways Administrator.
He has served in the position on an interim basis
since the retirement of Jim Ross in December.

on Transportation Investment
Discussion
to focus on transportation planning
The
third meeting of the Forum on Transportation
Investment will focus on Idaho’s
transportation needs. At this meeting,
the Forum will examine data and transportation
planning efforts. The January meeting
focused on current financial tools available
to transportation agencies in Idaho. The
fourth meeting, coming in June, will discuss
future finance options.

Improvement will focus on moving commercial
and personal vehicles along Idaho’s
system of roads. But as the state and its
communities continue to grow, so does the
demand for public transportation.

claims 9 of 15 regional AAMVA awards
Not
since Titanic captured 11 Oscars in 1998 has
an awards ceremony been so dominated. ITD won
9 of 15 (nearly two-thirds) of the regional
awards announced this week by the American Association
of Motor Vehicles Administrators (Region 4).

scour manual posted on FHWA site
ITD’s
program to identify bridges that are threatened
by subsurface erosion and its plan to remediate
action called “scouring” received
national prominence last month when it was included
on the Federal Highway Administration’s
Web site.

Idaho becomes reality during whirlwind tour
Two
days, seven stops, one bill and a connected Idaho.
As if to demonstrate how vital it is to keep Idaho
communities connected, Gov. Dirk Kempthorne visited
sites in nearly every corner of the state last
week to ceremonially sign a landmark transportation
bill.

Time
to remove studded tires
State
law requires studded snow tires be
removed by April 30, the Idaho Transportation
Department announced. Idaho’s
studded snow tire season began Oct.
1. Studded tires are snow tires with
small metal cleats embedded in the
tread. They may cause undue wear on
bare roadways.

Follow
Lewis & Clark trail to fitness
The
12th annual spring challenge began this week,
but it is not too late to sign up, according
to Pauline Davis, one of the fitness event organizers.
ITD employees have until the end of the day
today (Friday, April 22), to register and make
their incentive choices. The 10-week event challenges
participants to improve their health by exercising
and logging an average of at least three hours
of activity per week.
