As Idahoans continue to travel throughout the winter season, ITD ramped up efforts to inform motorists of the new and improved 511 website and app. By highlighting the easy-to-use and informative features 511 offers, ITD hopes to see more drivers planning ahead of their commute and arriving safely to their destination.

Amundson renders midnight aid to struggling motorist
The night shift on December 20 started at 6 p.m., just as it does every winter night near Powell on US-12 along the Lochsa River. Snow fell for several hours and then became rain, creating challenges for the three-man crew as pavement temps remained below freezing. Mechanical issues stretched the crew thin along the windy route, and D2 maintenance operator Allen Amundson was heading up Lolo Pass when a motorist flagged him down on the highway.

D3’s Lakey honored with Leadership Award from COMPASS
District 3 Engineering Manager Caleb Lakey was recognized Dec. 16 with a Leadership In Motion Award from COMPASS. Lakey was selected for proactively planning for growth in the Treasure Valley. Caldwell Mayor Garrett Nancolas and Public Works Director Brent Orton nominated Lakey.

Random drug testing potential doubles in 2020
The percentage of drivers selected for random drug testing under the Commercial Drivers License (CDL) program increased from 25% to 50% of driver positions as of Jan. 1, 2020. This will affect all CDL holders, including hundreds of employees within the ITD Division of Highways.
