Old Man Winter just doesn’t want to let go of the five northern counties of District One. Snow plows and deicer trucks are still making their rounds on area highways. But one day of good weather, seems to make people forget their winter driving skills.

New 511 options expand personalized access to highway information
A new upgrade to ITD’s 511 Traveler Information website last month takes the delivery of personalized highway information to a new level. ITD began testing technology in late March that enables travelers to receive information about highway conditions, delays and closures through automated alerts from Twitter.

Traffic concern prompts addition of separators
ITD crews installed these traffic separators on Tuesday (April 3) at Eagle and Ustick road at the request of local law enforcement officers who expressed concern for safety.

Workshops planned on doing business with government
Learn the basic rules of doing business with the government at two free workshops in North Central Idaho this month. The program will feature presenters from ITD, the Idaho Department of Commerce, the U.S. Small Business Administration, the U.S. Park Service and the U.S. Forest Service.

Heavy rain
Governor issues disaster declarations for three counties
Gov. C.L. “Butch” Otter issued disaster declarations early this week for three northern Idaho counties because of recent rainstorms that resulted in floods, landslide and highway damage. The declaration makes state support available for impacted areas, which include Bonner, Shoshone and Idaho counties.

Skilled and energetic Inland Crane workers assembled near the URS courtyard at about 7 a.m. Saturday, to prepare the classic Bucyrus-Erie B-3 steam shovel for its transport through downtown Boise.

Encore (3-30-12): Gowen Field street sign honors Gen. Manning
Gov. C.L. “Butch” Otter presided over a surprise renaming of a street and the unveiling of a street sign Tuesday at Gowen Field to honor Darrell Manning for his lifetime of service to the state. Gen. Manning retired as chairman of the Idaho Transportation Board in January after five years of guiding the board.

Encore (3-30-12): Help available for 'underwater' home loans
The wait is over for homeowners who want to refinance but owe more on their mortgages than their homes are worth. Starting March 26 Icon Credit Union was able to begin helping borrowers with the new HARP (Home Affordable Refinance Program) 2.0 that allows refinancing for primary residences, second homes, and investment properties (1 to 4 unit ) regardless of how deeply underwater they are.
