ITD shifts to yellow
ITD made a historic shift toward improving employee safety with a switch from the old orange vests to a new high-visibility yellow vests. The shift came during a ceremony at Headquarters and throughout the districts Aug. 30 and follows employee recommendations to a Tiger Team.

ITD Innovation
Best of the Best Employee Voting Now Open
It has been another impressive year of employee-driven innovations at ITD. Innovations saved more than $3.5 million and 25,000 hours in fiscal 2018. Employees also found more than 120 customer-service improvements in the last 12 months. Now it's time for employees to vote on the best.

Tiger Team innovation sets safety expectations for short-duration operations
The Highway Leadership Team recently approved the implementation of a Tiger Team innovation to standardize safety expectations for routine maintenance activities. The innovation outlines temporary traffic-control recommendations and requirements during short-duration operations.

I-84 grant
ITD celebrates largest grant ever Aug. 29 in Nampa
A much-needed infusion of federal funding in the Treasure Valley was recognized Aug. 29 in Nampa with a public event celebrating $90.24 million in grant funds to help ease congestion on I-84 between the Karcher Interchange and Franklin Boulevard.

District 6
Right place, right time
Island Park - August 28 (US-20, milepost 385): A semi trailer caught fire while traveling through our construction zone. Fortunately, just as the fire ignited, the driver pulled into our already closed lane. As soon as the truck stopped, our crews were on the scene.

Department Collaboration
Eggccidents, Star Cards and Carnies
"Eggccidents" and the Star Card were the focus of the department's booth at the Western Idaho State Fair Aug. 17-26 in Boise. The booth included a demo of what happens when two eggs crash into a wall at 30 mph – one wearing a seat belt and one not. The message: NOT optional.

Rethinking security at work and home
Three District 2 employees traveled to Boise in July to participate in an active-shooter exercise designed to test first responders and prepare employees to run, hide or fight. For Bill Foust, Eric Nelson, and Ty Winther, it was a stark reminder to be situationally aware.

ITD from the Vault - 25 Years Ago: Environment is top concern
From February-March Transporter 1993: More than $500,000 is being spent to ensure that a new highway project connecting Interstate 84 to Idaho 21 will not affect wildlife and bald eagles that winter roost in the area.

Employee Preparedness
PASS the extinguisher!
ITD Emergency Services manager Neal Murphy teamed up with Safety manager Randy Danner to hold several fire extinguisher training classes Aug. 22 to ensure employees are prepared for and can safely use a fire extinguisher, whether at home or work.
