Alternate use of reflective tape improves safety for ITD workers and motorists
When Allen Ploss from D4’s Jerome Maintenance crew was working on trimming tape for delineator reflectors, he found himself with an abundance of scraps that were destined for the garbage bin. Not wanting the material to go to waste, he thought of another use that would help improve safety for those on the road.

Entries sought for Excellence in Transportation Awards - deadline is Sept. 6
ITD is taking nominations for the 2019 Excellence in Transportation Awards. The due date for nominations is Sept. 6 by 4 p.m. This gives everyone a full four weeks to gather materials, evaluate and submit entries. This year, organizers are excited to announce significant changes to the awards contest designed to increase participation.

ITD is one of the most complex state agencies, providing a valuable and absolutely necessary service to citizens. Transportation touches nearly every Idahoan every day – whether it's commuting to and from work or school, farm-to-market, providing a route to the grocery store or hospital, or dispensing driver's licenses and vehicle registrations, the department is omnipresent. With a hand in so many endeavors, there is a strong need to recognize and manage risks.

DMV
Driver Record Dashboard – an industry first – saves time and provides service for driving customers
A Driver Record Dashboard (DRD) provides an online, on demand, real-time monitoring and access to driving records for employers. In FY18, DMV handled 21,943 driving records (government and private) through manual requests at HQ. An FY19 campaign encouraged using the DRD online, saving about 500 hours per year.

Mobility Services
Modification of 511 platform helps drivers be aware of congestion and delays
A new feature in the 511 Traveler Services platform is helping drivers save time by alerting them to traffic congestion that will create unusual or above-normal delays. Previously, information about delays was tied to construction activity, weather or an accident, and not traffic congestion.

Idaho has some unique regulations and training requirements that are not covered in training produced by the American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators (AAMVA), so DMV Training Specialist Ric Simmons is taking the initiative to tackle these shortcomings.

Switch to Print Organizer for plotting needs saves time and money
ITD had used the same system for many years to serve its batch-plotting needs. But as with anything that relies on technology, time eventually catches up and it becomes too old and antiquated to quickly perform the task. So a team that spanned districts came up with the idea to switch to a print organizer to accomplish things more efficiently.

What is a virtual server? It is technology that allows us to take a physical server and use special software to build multiple servers on a single physical server. Think of it like a hotel, a big building with many rooms. The physical server is the hotel and the rooms are the virtual servers.
