District 6
ITD’s Driggs crew provides huge assist to east Idaho oil tanker
On Wednesday morning (Jan. 15), ITD’s District 6 crew out of the Driggs maintenance shop came to the rescue of a fuel truck in distress and needing to make a delivery in Teton Valley. ITD restored mobility where it counted most, and also played a critical role in providing a safe route for the fuel tanker and being a good community partner for the people depending on that fuel oil.

District 5
Fort Hall Interchange project wins Excellence in Transportation Communication/Outreach award
The Fort Hall interchange, at Exit 80 on Interstate 15, was constructed in 1958 and had reached the end of its design life. So, in 2018, the Shoshone-Bannock Tribes and ITD District 5 partnered to ensure the new design would meet the needs of the tribal community, since the interchange was the primary entrance into the Fort Hall Indian Reservation from the freeway in Eastern Idaho.

Safety Corner
Operators help drivers get “plow ready”
Snow has already covered parts of the state, and this year audiences in the Coeur d’Alene, Twin Falls and Idaho Falls areas heard from operators on how they can be “plow ready.” So far, nearly a dozen presentations around the state supplements the information the department pushes out annually to remind drivers to be prepared.

A sequel to last summer’s photo contest will kick off Monday, Jan. 13 in an effort to highlight one of ITD’s greatest success stories: winter operations. This time of year is one of the best times to talk about ITD’s mission, while simultaneously highlighting the beauty of the state.

D2’s gravel selection improves runaway truck ramp performance
Gravel matters when it comes to runaway truck ramps, and District 2 started upgrading its old ramps with new material after noticing that those big trucks were progressing farther and farther up the ramps after leaving the road - a scary scenario.

The two newest Innovation Stewards in the Division of Highways are Eric Dahlinger of the Central Labs, and Vicky Calderon of the Roadway Data section. Both have a simple message to employees: "don't be hesitant - we're here to help."

2020 Equipment Roadeo schedule announced
The annual Equipment Roadeos begin in May, which will be here sooner than you think. This year’s events will include a few new wrinkles and guidelines. While the roadeos recognize participants with the highest score based on skill and ability, the safe operation of equipment is the ultimate goal.

ITD Annual Report video wins another “Gold” award
The video version of the most recent ITD Annual Report won yet another award last week – a “Gold” award from AVA Digital.  The video won in the long-form category. In just under eight minutes, the annual report video summarizes the highly successful fiscal year and the department’s accomplishments toward the goals of safety, mobility and economic opportunity.
